Online Learning

Housing New Zealand is changing the way its home ownership programme is delivered. It will be delivered online and via tailored workshops in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch only.

This learning option will give you flexibility to do the Welcome Home First Steps course at a time that suits you, and you’ll still be able to participate in group discussions and get feedback from the tutor online.

 

The online option includes information on:

  2. Goal setting and budgeting
  3. The home buying process
  4. Getting a home loan
  5. Financial assistance for first-home buyers
  6. Building a home and affordable house design
  7. Maintaining your home and refinancing

Technical requirements for the Welcome Home First Steps online education course

The Welcome Home First Steps online education course requires, at minimum, Adobe Flash 6 software to be installed and Javascript to be enabled in your browser. Recommended web browsers are Firefox, Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8, or Safari. Although the course can be completed using a dialup connection, broadband is recommended.

Message #1: Flash Upgrade Required

The site uses version 6 of the Flash Player. We have detected that you are running an older version of Flash. Please upgrade your Flash Player at Adobe.com:

Alternatively, download an optional version (6 - 10) from the Adobe website

After you have installed the plugin, please return to our site and refresh/reload the affected page. You should then be able to view and interact with our Flash content.

Message #2: Browser Upgrade Required

Your web browser does not support the level of scripting required to dynamically generate interactive content.

In order to view this content you will need to upgrade your browser. Mozilla Firefox is a lightweight, popular, cross-platform and standards-compliant browser:

Message #3: Enable Javascript

Javascript is disabled. We use Javascript to detect for the correct version of the Flash plugin. For instructions on enabling Javascript, please refer to our Javascript help.

Below are instructions for enabling Javascript in a range of compatible browsers:

Internet Explorer (Windows), 6x & 7x

  1. Select Internet Options from the browser's Tools menu
  2. In Internet Options dialog box, select the Security tab
  3. Click Custom Level at the bottom. The Security Settings dialog box will pop up.
  4. Under Scripting category enable Active Scripting, allow paste options via script and scripting of Java applets
  5. Click OK twice to close out
  6. Click Refresh Current Page

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select Options from the browser's Tools menu
  2. Select the Content icon
  3. Ensure that Enable Javascript is checked
  4. Click OK
  5. Click Reload current page (F5)

Safari

  1. Select Preferences from the Safari menu
  2. Click Security
  3. Check both Enable Java and Enable JavaScript
  4. Close the window
