Case study one: Levi Wrathall

We went along to the course and basically we learnt everything that we needed to know.

After noticing a Welcome Home First Steps advertisement in a local newspaper, Levi Wrathall and his partner decided to attend a first-steps home buyer's workshop. Levi admits that he learned a lot from the workshops. In particular, he felt the best lesson was budgeting.

I didn’t know anything about lawyers, about building reports, or valuations, but it really explained everything.

Having arrived in New Zealand in 1999, the Fenikas quickly realised that the Kiwi dream involves owning your own home. They too wanted to follow this dream, but the main problem they encountered was that they knew nothing about the home-buying process.

Case study three: Sarah Conroy

Sarah Conroy talks about her experience with Welcome Home First Steps.

There’s a lot of hard work involved ... but it does pay off in the end.

Sarah heard about Welcome Home First Steps from her cousin and decided to check it out. “I went and had a look to see what I could find out. I learned quite a bit about how to deal with banks and real estate agents, and all the ins and outs of buying and building a house." She declares that the knowledge learned from the course led to home ownership becoming a reality for her.

Case study four: Ruby Pitiroi

Ruby Pitiroi attended a Welcome Home First Steps workshop to find out information about building on multiple-owned Māori land. While Ruby found that the process was sometimes hard-going, she felt the course provided her with a first step in the right direction.
