Having arrived in New Zealand in 1999, the Fenikas quickly realised that the Kiwi dream involves owning your own home. They too wanted to follow this dream, but the main problem they encountered was that they knew nothing about the home-buying process. After attending the Welcome Home First Steps workshops, they learned everything that they needed to know. Patrick happily states that “I learned everything about how to own a house – and where to start.”
The information the Fenikas took from Welcome Home First Steps has proved invaluable as they now own their own house. The course helped the Fenikas, who encourages other Pacific peoples who are new to New Zealand to enrol in the course too. “I encourage all our Pacific people to use the service. It’s free, no cost, nothing at all.” By following the course material and participating in the course the Fenikas learned how to buy a house, and now share the New Zealand dream of home ownership.
